Burn, Rewrite, Reread

This is a tag I found ages ago on Kelly’s blog, and I thought it looked super fun. So I enlisted the help of one of my friends, who wrote down the titles of some books I’ve read, and I picked out three at a time to burn, rewrite or reread!

Truth or Dare, The Hate U Give, Flight of a Starling

Reread – The Hate U Give

Rewrite – Truth or Dare

Burn – Flight of a Starling

This was super hard, but at the end of the day, I cannot burn The Hate U Give, and I would really hate to rewrite it (as part of the reason this book is so powerful is that it’s own voices). And as Truth or Dare is an absolute favourite of mine, I can’t burn that either. So sorry to Flight of a Starling which, as much as I love it, had to be burned in this round.

Twilight, Noah Can’t Even, Heartless

Reread – Heartless

Rewrite – Twilight

Burn – Noah Can’t Even

Heartless is a definite reread for me (I am completely in love with this book), and although of course Noah Can’t Even is better than Twilight, as I used to be a mega Twihard, I feel a sort of obligation to rewrite the series, and try to make it much less problematic.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, What’s a Girl Gotta Do?, Holding Up The Universe

Reread – The Picture of Dorian Gray

Rewrite – What’s a Girl Gotta Do?

Burn – Holding Up the Universe

Again, although I loved Holding Up the Universe, I enjoyed the other two slightly more, so I have to burn this one. As for the others – I loved the writing of both these books so much, but at the end of the day, I really don’t think I could rewrite something from Oscar Wilde, so I will have to rewrite What’s a Girl Gotta Do?

The Handmaid’s Tale, Am I Normal Yet?, Caraval

Reread – The Handmaid’s Tale

Rewrite – Am I Normal Yet?

Burn – Caraval

Agh. This one was so hard, and I wrote all the others before I came back to this one. I think however, that I will have to burn Caraval, as I think the topics covered in the other two are more important.

The Sun is Also a Star, I’ll Give You The Sun, Optimists Die First

Reread – I’ll Give You The Sun

Rewrite – Optimists Die First

Burn – The Sun is Also a Star

I’ll Give You The Sun is one of my all time favourite contemporary YA novels, so I definitely choose to reread that. The Sun is Also a Star was really good, but ultimately I think I prefer Optimists Die First, so I would have to burn The Sun is Also a Star. Soz.

The Sin Eater’s Daughter, Ink, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Reread – The Sin Eater’s Daughter

Rewrite – Ink

Burn – The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

This one was fairly straightforward. I adored the TED trilogy and would reread it a thousand times over. I thought Ink had a really strong plot but I wasn’t too mad on the writing style, so I would definitely rewrite it. And to be honest, I didn’t like The Heart is a Lonely Hunter that much, so that will have to be burned.

So that was my Burn, Rewrite, Reread tag – I’m not going to tag anyone, but feel free to do this yourself (and tag me if you like)! And please let me know what you thought of my answers, and if you’d choose any differently!
