One of my reading goals for this year to read more widely, and so when I heard about Victober I thought it would be a great place to start! Victober is essentially about reading Victorian literature in October – you can choose to read whatever you want, or follow the reading challenges that have been set. This year, Victober is being ran by Lucy @ Lucy the Reader, Kate @ Kate Howe, Ange @ Beyond the Pages, and Katie @ Books and Things, and they are the ones who have set the challenges I am going to try and complete!
A book by a Scottish, Irish or Welsh author – for this, I have decided to read another Oscar Wilde book, because he is Irish, and I think I will choose one of his most famous plays, The Importance of Being Earnest. I read An Ideal Husband and The Picture of Dorian Gray earlier this year and really enjoyed them – I’ve been wanting to read more from him ever since so this is the perfect choice!
A book by a less well known author – I asked my English teacher about this one, and he recommended Wilkie Collins. I’ve looked into it, and I don’t think he’s wholly unknown, but I did find a couple of books by him with less than 12,000 Goodreads ratings, and will be reading The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice.
A supernatural book – I wanted to read Frankenstein last month, but didn’t get around to it – I decided that it would be perfect for this! Lots of people have recommended this too me over the past few months, so I’m really looking forward to reading it!
A book that was recommended to you – Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte. I asked Lucy for a recommendation after watching her YouTube video on Victorian Literature, and I know she knows a lot about Victorian literature – as I enjoyed Jane Eyre, she suggested I give Agnes Grey a try!
A book by a female author – this month I also want to read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. This is the longest of all the books I have chosen to read, but I still can’t wait to get started on it; I think that parts of the story are influenced by Anne’s own experiences, which will be really interesting!

A lot of these challenges do overlap, so I won’t be too disheartened if I don’t get all of them done, although I really would like to! I have forced two of my friends to take part in Victober with me, and it would be great if anyone else wanted to join – and if you are doing it, please let me know!
