Currently Reading Book Tag

It’s been a while since I last did a tag, but this one caught my eye on Emily’s blog A Cup of Wittea – I think these are really interesting questions to ask to get to know somebody’s reading habits! On reflection, I’ve realised that I actually spend most of my reading time in bed, and this has made me acknowledge how little time I’ve left for reading recently (which I can hopefully now rectify!).

My current read, Lying About Last Summer. Verdict so far: I’m only about thirty pages through, and its very promising!

How many books do you usually read at once?

Usually only one – occasionally I’ll be reading two at once, but that’s only when I have one for school, and one for fun. I prefer to focus on one book at a time, especially since I’ll probably be enjoying one book more than another.

If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch books?

If I’m reading two at once, that would suggest that I’m not feeling super invested in either, so generally it is just when I feel exhausted of the other book that I read the next one for a little while. Normally, when I say I’m reading two at a time, I’m mostly reading one, and have maybe gotten a couple of chapters into another.

Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re partway through a book?

I don’t use bookmarks that often, so no! I have one bookmark that I use, and that has been about thirty pages into A Tale of Two Cities for the past month, so I have been bookmark-less for a while!

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

I keep the books I’m reading next to my bed, as that’s where I get most of my reading done. Unfortunately, I also have a habit of not putting the books I finished back on the shelves, so I end up with huge stacks of books next to my bed!

What time of day do you spend the most time reading?

In the evening, before I go to bed. Before that I often feel bad if I spend too much time reading, because I have so much to do it feels dangerously close to procrastination. On the other hand, if it’s a school book, or something I have chosen as extra reading, I enjoy reading during my free periods at school!

How long do you typically read in one sitting?

Anything between twenty minutes and an hour – this depends on how much time I have, how tired I am and how much I am enjoying the book!

Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket on or off?

On? Do people take the dust jacket off whilst they read? I did not know that was even a thing, let me know if this is something you do!

What position do you mainly use to read?

Lying down in bed, propped up so I can read the book on my legs. Sometimes I turn on to my sides, but then I have to awkwardly hold up the book which quickly becomes uncomfortable.

Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?

Nope – sometimes I’ll bring the book I’m reading to school, and if I know I will be going on a long journey or waiting somewhere by myself, I’ll make sure to bring a book. But often I am not commuting for long enough to need to do this!

How often do you update your Goodreads progress on the book you’re currently reading?

Pretty much never – I think I’ve updated my Goodreads progress once; mostly I just input when I’ve finished it, without even setting the book as ‘currently reading’ first.

***

I’m not sure if I should tag anyone, as I wasn’t tagged myself, so I’m just going to nominate my sister Jess from Bookends and Endings for this one (and anyone else who wishes to do this tag, of course!).

happy readding
