Happy 2018 everyone! This is my first blog post of the year, and I thought I would begin by sharing my December book haul. I bought and received seven books this month, including a few from Christmas!
At the beginning of the month I bought Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood and We by Yevgeny Zamyatin off of Ebay. After reading The Handmaid’s Tale early in the year I really wanted to read more from Margaret Atwood, and so I decided to try Alias Grace. I actually started reading this book at the beginning of December, but it is quite long, and I was trying to make it to 100 books by the end of the year, so I will be coming back to it this month! We is another book I’ve been really wanting to read – I think it’s supposed to be similar to 1984 in that it is a dark dystopian, so I will see where that goes! I wasalso delighted to receive a finished copy of Shell by Paula Rawsthorne from Scholastic, which I have now read and really enjoyed – this book comes out tomorrow, so definitely buy yourselves a copy! I will be taking part in the blog tour later this month, so watch out for that.
This year I took part in two Secret Santas – one in school, and one with a group of friends. In both of these, I received books, which I am super happy about. One friend got me Books v Cigarettes by George Orwell (and I find his writing totally fasicinating, so will be reading this asap), and the other bought me a copy of The Complete Poems & Plays of T. S. Eliot (I read some of T. S. Eliot’s works a few years ago, and I’m really looking forward to trying some more)!
Finally, I received a couple more books this Christmas – Jess, my sister and blogger at Bookends And Endings, gave me a copy of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. I have read a couple of things by Oscar Wilde, and Jess knew that I really wanted to read this play, so this was a lovely present! A family friend also received two copies of The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion for Christmas, and so gave me her spare copy, which I am really excited about, as I have been seeing this book around for so long, and have been wanting to read it myself!
Honestly, I was feeling a little bad that this book haul had so little YA in it (this being a YA book blog, and all), but I was genuinely thrilled with all of these books so who cares? I hope you enjoyed this book haul nonetheless, and please let me know what books you received over Christmas, and in December in general!
